Ambedkarite Community in the Netherlands

AIM Netherlands brings together Ambedkarite Buddhists, families, researchers and allies who live across the Netherlands. Our community draws inspiration from Dr B.R. Ambedkar’s vision of liberty, equality and fraternity, and works to keep that vision alive here in Holland.

A welcoming community across Holland

Members of our community live and work across the Netherlands — from Amsterdam, Utrecht and The Hague to Rotterdam, Eindhoven and university towns in between. Many of us came to the Netherlands for work or studies and have stayed to build homes, raise families and contribute to Dutch society. AIM Netherlands offers a space where all these individual journeys meet.

We welcome newcomers, long-time residents, international students and Dutch allies who are interested in the history, thought and ongoing movement inspired by Dr Babasaheb Ambedkar.

What we do together

Our activities are grounded in Dr Ambedkar’s call to Educate, Organize and Agitate. In practice this means we focus on:

  • Education and awareness: reading circles, lectures, seminars and conversations on Dr Ambedkar’s philosophy, the Indian Constitution, human rights and Buddhist thought.
  • Cultural engagement: celebrating Ambedkar Jayanti, Dhamma Chakra Pravartan Din, Buddha Purnima and other occasions with the community, and sharing these traditions with Dutch friends.
  • Community support: creating a social network for Ambedkarite families, students and professionals in the Netherlands, so nobody has to navigate a new country alone.
  • Social action and dialogue: engaging with universities, civil-society organisations and research groups on equality, caste-based discrimination and inclusion.

Ambedkar Buddhist community in the Netherlands

Dr Ambedkar embraced Buddhism as a path rooted in equality, compassion and rational enquiry. Many members of AIM Netherlands continue that tradition as practising Ambedkarite Buddhists. Through Vihar visits, meditation sittings, Dhamma talks and Jayanti observances, we keep this spiritual dimension of the Ambedkarite movement alive in the Netherlands in a way that is open and accessible to Buddhist and non-Buddhist members alike.

No. AIM Netherlands is a not-for-profit, purely intellectual, cultural and community-oriented organisation. It has no political affiliations and focuses on education, social awareness and cultural engagement.

Where are events held in the Netherlands?

Events are held in different cities across the Netherlands depending on the theme and partners involved. Past gatherings have taken place in cities like The Hague, Amsterdam and nearby regions. Upcoming events are always listed on our Events page.

Is the community active only in Holland or also elsewhere in Europe?

AIM Netherlands is primarily active in the Netherlands but is part of a wider European Ambedkarite network. We collaborate with chapters and like-minded groups across Europe, including the United Kingdom, France, Germany and Belgium.
